Before-Booking Questions

A practical question sheet for checking the details that matter to your hotel stay.

Use these prompts to compare a property with your own travel needs. You do not need to ask every question. Choose the ones that would change your decision, and keep the answers with your reservation.

Property and reservation

  • What is the property’s exact name and street address?
  • Which business is taking the payment and handling changes?
  • What room type, dates, and guest count are recorded?
  • What is the total quoted amount, and which optional charges might apply?
  • What are the cancellation deadline, time zone, and refund terms?

Arrival and getting around

  • What are the check-in hours and arrangements for a late arrival?
  • Where should a taxi or other vehicle drop me off?
  • Which entrance will be open when I arrive?
  • Who can answer a practical question outside ordinary desk hours?

Room features

  • Which bed layout and room features are confirmed?
  • Which accessibility features are in the specific room type?
  • Is the route from the entrance to that room suitable for my needs?
  • Are requested family arrangements confirmed or still subject to availability?

Keep a useful record

Note the date of your conversation, the person or department you spoke with, and the details that were confirmed. Save written terms and confirmation messages. A question sheet helps you organize a conversation; it does not replace the booking terms or verify the property.

The Federal Trade Commission recommends checking travel businesses and reading cancellation and refund terms before paying. For more context, read how to research a hotel before you book.
